See the link on the Spring Workshop page – Mar. 17 at the Eagles Hall in Campbell River!
The salmonberries are flowering and the herring are spawning, so it must be spring! Weird weather this year, but we are enjoying it over here at the Project. We also have some great news! We will be hosting a food security workshop in Campbell River on March 17, 2015 with the Strathcona Food Action Committee. See the poster for more details – we hope to see you there! The harvest season is busy as always and here at the Project, we were very fortunate to get some time out on the water and have some fishing luck! Many jars of sockeye have now been put up and will hopefully last for the next 3 years before another big run comes through (fingers crossed). We hear that there is some amazing workshops happening across the Island in Tahsis with fermenting experiments with kombucha and sauerkraut, and many of our local farmers are starting to put things to bed for the winter now that the fall storms are upon us.
The Food Action Committee has been hard at work getting geared up and assisting with developing a Request for Proposals so that the Project can move on to a more permanent home. Thank you to all who have been attending for their wonderful input and support of the process!
We are now looking to present the Food Security workshop in early Spring, hopefully with the worst of the weather behind us and before the growers get too busy. Stay tuned and share your ideas on the Spring Workshop page!
Well, it has been a busy few months since our last update. The open houses were great for making new connections and celebrating established ones. The Project gave updates to the Strathcona Regional District Board and the City of Campbell River Council. And, we have had our first Food Action Committee meeting! Check out the presentation and the draft minutes on the Food Action Committee page.
We have more exiting news as well – we will be hosting an autumn workshop on food security in Strathcona! Pop on over to the Autumn Workshop page to share your ideas on the blog.
Enjoy the summer and keep an eye on our Facebook page (Strathcona Food Security Project) for updates on local food producers and community food initiatives.
The Strathcona Food Security Project team is excited to announce that it has released its draft reports for public comment. Please check them out on the Reports page and let us know what you think!
